If you have been in the blogging and website building business for long, then you know how important the word “backlink” is. For some, it practically their bread and butter. They can think of nothing other than backlinks.
Although it’s a failed strategy to concentrate on backlinks and backlinks alone, never-the-less these are very important. For those of you who are not aware of the term, let me just quickly inform you a little.
There are two types of backlinks: internal and external. The former refers to links in your domain, and the external backlinks refer to link from outside your domain pointing to your domain. They are both very important, and for a website to be successful, there needs to be a healthy amount of both.
What Are Internal Backlinks?:
So internal backlinks are links that connect two post or two pages or a post to a page, or a page to a post. It’s usually done in the form of a hyperlink that can be placed on a text or an image. When placed in the text, that particular text is called an anchor text.
We’ll be touching on what is an anchor text is in the next para. Internal backlinks have two purposes to serve: one it adds value to your post, and people are likely to follow the link to read more on your website.
Another major factor in practicing interlinking is that it helps boost SEO. The practice is seen valuable by Google, and a good amount of healthy interlinking helps rank the site.
We Need To Talk About Anchor Texts:
We spoke about anchor texts in the earlier para. There are various kinds of anchor text. The most common types are naked URL, target anchor texts, non-target anchor text.
The first one, as a name suggest is where you copy and paste the URL of the site inside of a post, instead of pasting it into some text. The second one is about pasting the URL on a targeted word.
Usually, these are keywords or variations of keywords. Non targeted anchor texts refers to pasting URL on texts like “click here,” “also see,” etc.
How To Successfully Interlink?
To get the ball rolling let me just tell you how you can best practice good internal backlinking. Suppose you are writing for a site and then you write post 1, followed by post 2 and 3.
Here’s how you should be interlinking. Link post 1 to post 2 and then in post 3, link up post 1. In post 4, you can link up post 2, so on and so forth.
But the links should be genuinely relevant. If they are not relevant, find out a way to make them relevant. You’d be surprised at your creativity.
What About Post Vs. Page:
In most cases, pages are pretty static because they are made for static information. As opposed to pages, the post is pretty flexible.
Both pages and posts offer great avenues for interlinking. In pages particularly, you can interlink other information based pages or posts. Usually, pages don’t rank, so there is no need to get too worked up about this.
We hope now you have a sort of understanding of the importance of internal backlinks and how it can affect your ranking. If you found this post helpful, don’t forget to leave a comment and share this post.
